K-12 Support

The CCE is focused on nurturing a strong foundation in computing, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and digital literacy among K-12 students. Named in Mississippi legislation (HB 633) to provide computer science curriculum and teacher training, our initiatives encompass a wide array of educational and training opportunities designed to inspire and prepare the next generation of cyber professionals.

Curriculum Guidance and Training

The CCE offers curriculum guidance and training for both academic and CTE programs related to artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, computing, and digital literacy.

Professional Development

The CCE provides professional development (PD) for educators seeking to enhance their skills and knowledge in computing-related topics. This includes training for elementary educators on how to integrate computer science into all core subject areas, secondary and CTE teachers looking to re-skill into CS or deepen their knowledge in specific areas such as programming, robotics, cybersecurity, and AI. Our PD programs are tailored to meet the needs of K-12 teachers, counselors, building administrators, and district-level staff. These programs are available as packaged courses open to all or as customized workshops for specific schools or districts.

Online CS Academy

The Online CS Academy, powered by the Mississippi State University Center for Cyber Education, is a free, statewide program designed to help Mississippi schools meet the requirements of the Mississippi Computer Science and Cyber Education Equality Act (HB 633) which states that ALL high schools must offer at least one computer science course.

What the CCE / Online CS Academy Provides

  • Access to CS courses such as Exploring Computer Science and AP Computer Science, delivered through high-quality asynchronous instruction.
  • Instruction created and delivered by certified Mississippi computer science teachers.
  • Professionally recorded lessons produced in MSU’s studio for engaging, consistent instruction statewide.
  • Academy teachers provide instruction, feedback, and academic support.
  • Free tutoring available during the school day through the MSU Center for Cyber Education and undergraduate CS majors.

What the School / School District Must Provide

  • A dedicated classroom space for students to participate in the course(s).
  • Internet access compatible with the school-provided student devices.
  • Placement of the course on the student’s schedule as a dedicated class period during the school day.
  • A dedicated facilitator present during the scheduled class period to monitor attendance, behavior, and participation.

Outreach Events

The CCE hosts a wide range of STEM outreach events throughout the year, including immersive summer camps, hands-on mobile unit experiences, and interactive sessions delivered directly in local school districts. These programs are intentionally designed to meet students where they are—both geographically and developmentally—by providing engaging, age-appropriate learning experiences that make cybersecurity and computing accessible and exciting. Through real-world applications, problem-solving activities, and exposure to emerging technologies, CCE outreach initiatives aim to spark curiosity, build foundational skills, and inspire students to explore future pathways in computer science, cybersecurity, and other high-demand STEM fields. The CCE also presents at various state and national conferences on the topics of computer science, cybersecurity, and AI.
